| When photographing birds, my basic field
equipment consists of the 20D with 500mm f4 IS, 10D with the 100-400IS zoom
lens. I often combine a
1.4X teleconverter with the 500 and 600mm lenses for additional reach. I find the metering and
autofocus speed is outstanding with the 20D and long lens
combinations. My favorite lens for close focusing is the
100mm f2.8
macro with an extension tube and 1.4X teleconverter which can easily give full frame shots of
small insects with very good image quality.
